Hello,
It’s Sunita here.
It’s never too late for anything to change in our life for the better if …
We stop long enough to listen to what our soul is saying to us.
We swap successful results for efforts in pursuit of a meaningful goal, regardless of the outcome.
We take the first step towards an idea that scares us, but does not go away.
We start being honest with ourselves.
We start to dismantle our reasons to not move forward with what our heart/spirit desires, by writing down all the reasons we constantly cite to not do it- (common ones are- I can’t afford it, my kids need me, my business will collapse, I’ll do it later, things are okay, I’m happy, things could be worse, I’m too old, it’s worked so far, I can’t do it, I don’t know where to start, etc.)
We stop worrying about what others will say.
We stop worrying about what others will say.
We stop worrying about what others will say.
I was leaving my gym this Friday morning after a particularly invigorating and life affirming workout. As I stepped out in the sunshine, feeling energized and amazing, I bumped into an acquaintance of mine.
“Did you hear about Ed?”
“No”, I replied.
Ed and I had been colleagues when I was a practicing dentist. We had reconnected at the gym in a new way, often catching up between sets of exercises, or just giving each other an encouraging thumbs up as we put in the effort to stay healthy as we age.
I hadn’t seen Ed in the gym for a few weeks but remembered from my last conversation with him, as we stood between two stair masters, that he was excited to be heading to Portugal for a much deserved vacation with his wife.
“Ed died”, said my acquaintance.
“No way!!! I just spoke to him a couple of weeks ago. He was going on vacation.”
Ed died in Portugal while on vacation.
Ed’s plans for retirement, spending more time with his family, guiding his adult children as they navigated life, travelling more with his wife, and all the delights of his years ahead are now gone.
That can be the case for anyone of us.
Today maybe our last day on this earth.
Did we live a life of purpose, meaning and service to what, and who, was important to us?
Were we faithful to our true self?
Did we entertain failure often enough for it to teach us how to grow?
Did we say I love you to the people we loved, loud enough for them to feel it?
Did we refuse to say I love you when we didn’t mean it?
Did we choose relationship over transaction as many times as we possibly could?
Did we try our best to fulfill our potential- our spiritual potential?
Did we expand our consciousness to create new realities for ourselves, and others?
Did we follow our dreams to try to make them a reality?
Or did we worry about what others would say and give in to our fears and discomfort with uncertainty?
It only takes a second for us to make a shift in our consciousness. Then it takes the rest of our life to do the work to expand it.
How long is that rest of our life?
None of us know.
But what I do know with certainty is that it’s never too late to start living awake and with self awareness, and with fidelity to our true selves.
Until next time,
Moving forwards,
No matter how long, or short my life is from this present moment,
Sunita
RIP Ed. I will miss you at the gym.
