A Friday Reminder From My Inspiration Playbook
Our purpose is revealed only when we learn to distinguish between good and right.
Hello,
It’s Sunita here.
I stayed in more good places, relationships and jobs (to my detriment) than I care to admit to. I stayed because they were good. I even felt satisfaction and pride being connected to them.
I stayed because I had not found the courage to walk away. I stayed because I had not yet learned how to navigate uncertainty while pursuing my personal greatness.
I stayed because good felt good enough.
But that was not right for me and it came with a huge price tag.
We usually know deep within us when we are short changing ourselves.
John O’ Donohue expressed the sentiment of No More in the beautiful lyrical and poetic voice he had in the paragraph above. I was fortunate be given permission by his Estate to include it in my first book, Stripping: My Fight to Find Me. It speaks to me daily!
Few people attain great lives, in large part because it is just so easy to settle for a good life.
These are exactly my sentiments but I attribute this quote to Jim Collins.
“Good is the enemy of great. And that is one of the key reasons why we have so little that becomes great. We don't have great schools, principally because we have good schools. We don't have great government, principally because we have good government. Few people attain great lives, in large part because it is just so easy to settle for a good life.” from Jim’s book, Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't.
I have made a conscious decision of not short changing myself anymore. I choose great over good. I choose right over good.
For great is right for me.
And great does not mean grand and outwardly bombastic.
Our personal greatness is just that- it’s personal.
Until next time,
Moving forwards,
Sunita
Always so well said. There are great distinguishes between all of them. Thank you for your wise insight ❤️
